What we do at iO-Sphere is unveil the mystery that is landing a job and equip you with the tools and skills to not only stand out in your interview but consistently thrive in your new role.

The world of data is growing at an exponential rate. In every industry the key decision makers are looking for data professionals to help guide their thinking and get more insight on their business performance to help make the right decisions. So in short, they want you.

But, traditional bootcamps and Universities aren’t necessarily giving the professional skills that employers are looking for: curiosity, problem solving, teamwork and many more. Which means that when you are sitting across from them in the interview, you may have the technical skills but they are looking for people who they can seamlessly integrate into their business.

In the webinar with Datacamp, James touched on what it is that employers are looking for when hiring data professionals. Not only what programmes should have on lockdown but what professional and soft skills are they keeping their eye out for. He then goes to give you the starting tool kit, some hints and guides for you to start using right away in your job interviews.

People are looking to hire you in data, make sure they can’t say no.

Some insider tips:

Know what role you’re applying for:

We know this sounds basic, but as data expands there are thousands of niche roles popping up. Make sure you know exactly what role you’re applying for and be confident in your ability to execute and be successful in that role.

Confidence in your experience and skills:

Being a data professional isn’t just about knowing SQL or Python. It’s about working with people, it’s about understanding what the business needs and using your skills as a data professional to help guide them in the right direction.

Applying for jobs:

Don’t just go in guns blazing and apply for every job under the sun (don’t get us wrong, quantity is important) but make sure you know what your applying for, you’ve done your research and you’re making sure that you are networking with the right people. People are more likely to hire someone that they’ve been referred than someone straight off LinkedIn. So get out there and get active when applying for jobs.

Interviewing:

When you step into that interview always remember to be yourself. After all, if you are committed to working there, being someone else is not going to work out long term. Interviewers want to see that you can solve problems, that you can be part of the team and most importantly you can help make their business grow - so make sure you practice ahead of time and just relax.

You’ve got the job:

You’ve got the job!
